Start of Semester Tasks

Reminder: Classes will be open to students 4 days before the start of the semester.

This task list is designed to help you review your course content before students see it at the beginning of the semester. Please complete the following tasks once you have copied your course content from previous or existing courses:

Homepage

  1. Review and update homepage.
  2. Test and update all links.

Content

  1. Update course files and content.
  2. Test and update course links.
  3. Delete outdated or unused content.
  4. Update or remove any date restrictions.

Announcements

  1. Post a welcome message to your class.
  2. Delete any old messages that are not applicable.

Grades

  1. Add and/or modify gradebook items as needed.
  2. Delete outdated or unused items.
  3. Ensure all items are visible (unless intentionally hidden).
  4. Verify that grade item weights total 100%.
  5. Attach grade items to corresponding assignments, quizzes, and discussions. (if applicable)

Assignments

  1. Add and/or modify assignments.
  2. Delete outdated or unused assignments.
  3. Update any date restrictions.
  4. Enable Turnitin (if applicable)

Discussions

  1. Create new discussions and modify existing ones.
  2. Delete outdated or unused discussions.
  3. Update or remove any date restrictions.

Quizzes

  1. Add and/or modify quizzes.
  2. Delete outdated or unused quizzes.
  3. Update or delete any date restrictions.
  4. Activate Respondus (if applicable)

Groups

  1. Add and/or modify groups.
  2. Delete outdated or unused groups.
  3. Ensure groups are associated with discussions and/or assignments (if applicable)

Virtual Sessions

  1. Review Due Dates and Date Restrictions.

Review Course

  1. Review the course from a student’s perspective and adjust accordingly.
    • Click your name in the upper right-hand corner>Choose View as Student
