Interrupted/Missing Quizzes

Student Saved Quiz and Cannot Access

If the exam is set up with a time limit, for example, 2 hours, the clock starts once the student starts the exam. If the student saves the exam and returns in 4 hours, they cannot continue. If you want to give the student a second chance to complete the exam. You have some choices:

  • You can give them special access to the exam and add more time, for instance, another 2 hours.
  • You can reset the student’s attempt and as long as the exam window is still open, they can complete the exam again. (See below, Reset Exam Attempt)
  • If the student did not submit the exam but has finished it, you can submit on their behalf. (See below, Submit Quiz on Students Behalf)

I Cannot Find the Student Quiz Attempt

If a student contacts you and says they completed their exam, but you do not see it, they might not have submitted it and it will be in progress. You can check for exams in progress and decide what you want to do from there.

  • Assessment > Quizzes
  • Click the dropdown arrow by the quiz name
  • Choose Grade
  • Click Show Search Options
  • From here on, the Restrict to: Choose Users with attempts in progress (1)
  • Click the magnifying glass to search (2)
  • You will now see all the students that have started their exams but have not completed it.

Submit Quiz on Students Behalf (Attempt in Progress)

  • If the student has completed the exam, but just forgot to submit it (or had a computer issue), you can submit the exam on the student’s behalf.
  • Assessment > Quizzes
  • Click the dropdown arrow by the quiz name
  • Choose Grade
  • Click Show Search Options
  • From here on the Restrict to: Choose Users with attempts in progress
  • Click the magnifying glass to search (2)
  • You will now see all the students that have started their exam but have not completed it. From here you can click the submit iconsubmit icon. (3)
  • Popup window will ask, if you want to enter the quiz as the user. Choose Yes you will then be taken into the exam and you can then Submit the Quiz on the student’s behalf.

If the student starts the exam and loses access to it, the instructor wants to allow them another chance to complete it. You can follow these steps to delete the attempt.

Reset Student Attempt (Attempt in Progress)

  • Choose Assessments > Quizzes
  • Click the dropdown arrow by the quiz name
  • Choose Grade
  • Click Show Search Options
  • From here on the Restrict to: Choose Users with attempts in progress (1)
  • Click the magnifying glass to search (2)
  • Check the students attempt that you want to delete (3) and click the reset button (4).
  • You will be asked if you want to Reset the Attempt, This operation will permanently delete all data associated with these attempts of the quiz.
  • Click Yes.
