This fall, Sheridan hosted its first Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW); a hands-on, reflective, and collaborative professional development experience for faculty and staff. Over three immersive days, faculty members engaged in mini-lessons, peer feedback circles, and guided reflection facilitated by SPARK’s teaching and learning team.
The ISW provided educators with a supportive environment to refine their teaching practice, experiment with new approaches, and strengthen their confidence in lesson design and delivery. Learners shared that the experience helped them deepen their understanding of learner-centered teaching, enhance classroom engagement strategies, and build meaningful connections across disciplines.
Many described the ISW as “energizing, practical, and deeply collaborative,” highlighting the value of learning alongside peers and experiencing firsthand what active, student-centered learning feels like.
This initiative represents an important step in Sheridan’s ongoing commitment to transformative teaching and learning and the continued development of reflective, innovative educators.
The next Instructional Skills Workshop is tentatively scheduled for December 17–19, 2025.
