Self-Check Folders & Copyleaks Data Hub Updates
Self-Check folders allow students to submit draft versions of an assignment before the due date to review text-matching and AI detection scores. This gives students the opportunity to revise their work prior to making their final graded submission.
What’s Changed
Previously, student submissions to Self-Check folders were not stored in the Copyleaks Data Hub. This prevented a student’s own draft from triggering a false “self-plagiarism” match against their final paper.
Copyleaks has updated its system to automatically recognize and exclude a student’s own previously submitted work when generating similarity reports. As a result:
- Drafts are now stored in the Data Hub: Self-check submissions are retained for a complete submission history.
- No false self-matches: Earlier drafts will not trigger plagiarism flags on the final paper.
Crucial Exception – Same-Course Requirement:
Automatic self-match exclusion only works within the same course. If a student submits the same draft to a different course or a previous term’s course, Copyleaks will flag it as a 100% match.

- Zero Configuration Needed: This is a system-wide update from Copyleaks. You don’t need to adjust any settings.
