Self-Check Folders: Updated Data Hub Behaviour
Self-check folders allow students to submit draft papers before their formal graded submission, so they can review their text-matching and AI detection scores and revise accordingly.
What’s changed
Previously, student submissions to self-check folders were not stored in the Copyleaks Data Hub. This was done to prevent a student’s own draft from being flagged as a match against their final graded submission later on (i.e., “self-plagiarism”).
Copyleaks has since updated their system to automatically recognize and ignore a student’s own previously submitted work when generating match results. As a result, drafts submitted to self-check folders are now stored in the Data Hub, and this will no longer cause a false match when the student submits their final paper.
What this means for instructors
This is a system-level change on Copyleaks’ end — it is not a setting instructors can control or configure. No action is needed on your part; self-check submissions are now stored automatically, and Copyleaks handles the self-match exclusion for you.
Why this matters
- Draft submissions are now retained for a more complete submission history
- Students can no longer be inadvertently flagged for matching their own earlier draft
