The group tool can be used to create group work areas for users.  You can use groups to organize users’ work on projects and assignments.

 

Students can belong to multiple groups within the same course.  Each group can have its own discussion forums and assignment folders.  You can grade members of groups individually or as a team.

 

You can access the Groups tool by selecting Groups from the Management drop-down:

Prior to Setting up Groups:   

You need to make a few decisions about how the groups will work:

  1. Will students be auto-enrolled in groups?
  2. Will students be placed in groups randomly?
  3. Will students self-enroll into groups?

In most cases, it is better to set up the groups after a majority of users are enrolled in your course.
