{"id":26972,"date":"2025-07-22T15:19:36","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T15:19:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/?p=26972"},"modified":"2025-07-22T15:19:36","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T15:19:36","slug":"release-notes-july-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/release-notes-july-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Release Notes: July 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2>Assignments \u2013 Flexible text or file submission options for enhanced learner choice | New<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This feature enables instructors to create a new assignment type that accepts submissions in the form of an uploaded file, text entered in Brightspace Editor, or both.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To create this new type of assignment, instructors must go to the&nbsp;<strong>New Assignment<\/strong>&nbsp;page, expand the&nbsp;<strong>Submission &amp; Completion<\/strong>&nbsp;panel, open the&nbsp;<strong>Submission Type<\/strong>&nbsp;dropdown, and select the new&nbsp;<strong>File or text submission<\/strong>&nbsp;option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6036482\/uploads\/KLBD3HGJ0XZ2\/assignments-newsubmissiontype-nim-514-en-us.png\" alt=\"Expanded Submission Type  menu showing five options: File submission, File or text submission, Text submission, On paper submission, and Observed in person.\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure: The new&nbsp;<strong>File or text submission<\/strong>&nbsp;option appears in the&nbsp;<strong>Submission Type<\/strong>&nbsp;dropdown on the&nbsp;<strong>New Assignment<\/strong>&nbsp;page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For these assignments, learners can choose how they want to demonstrate their learning. For example, if the assignment is an essay, learners can upload a file, paste a link to an external file in the text box, or type the entire essay into the text box. For assignments restricted to only one file, learners still have the option to add a text submission. Learners will also see an expanded Brightspace Editor for text submissions on the assignment submission page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6036482\/uploads\/33M64DT7ZAEW\/assignments-file-or-text-submission-nim-514-en-us.png\" alt=\"Expanded Submission Type  menu showing five options: File submission, File or text submission, Text submission, On paper submission, and Observed in person.\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure: The new&nbsp;<strong>Submit Assignment<\/strong>&nbsp;page for learners, showing the option to submit files and the option to enter text in Brightspace Editor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, the available\u00a0<strong>Submission Types<\/strong>\u00a0were:\u00a0<strong>File submission<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Text submission<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>On paper submission<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Observed in person<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Groups \u2013 Bulk enroll and unenroll users by CSV file import | New<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Instructors can now bulk enroll or unenroll learners in existing groups using a comma-separated values (CSV) file in the Groups tool. This feature adds a new&nbsp;<strong>Import<\/strong>&nbsp;button to the&nbsp;<strong>Manage Groups<\/strong>&nbsp;page and an&nbsp;<strong>Import<\/strong>&nbsp;option in the&nbsp;<strong>Category<\/strong>&nbsp;drop-down menu. Clicking&nbsp;<strong>Import<\/strong>&nbsp;opens a guided workflow with detailed instructions for correctly formatting the CSV file. Each line in the file must represent a single action: either enrolling or unenrolling a learner from a specific group in the course. CSV file modifications are limited to learners currently enrolled in the course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once uploaded, the system validates the CSV file. If the file contains no errors, the enroll or unenroll actions are performed, and once completed, the import results are displayed immediately. If there are any errors found in the file, the process stops and generates a list of errors found.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cancelling the process does not reverse completed actions. Only one import process can run at a time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Administrators can configure the CSV file format in the Form Elements tool using the new form element&nbsp;<strong>BulkGroupEnroll<\/strong>. The following form element properties are customizable:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Username<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Org Defined Id<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Group Name<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Group Code<\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Either&nbsp;<strong>Username<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>Org Defined Id<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Group Name<\/strong>&nbsp;or&nbsp;<strong>Group Code<\/strong>, are required to ensure there is enough information to complete the enrollment or unenrollment action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new workflow is available to roles with the&nbsp;<strong>Groups and Sections Management<\/strong>&nbsp;&gt;&nbsp;<strong>Create\/Edit\/Delete Groups and Categories<\/strong>&nbsp;permission enabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This feature implements the following PIE\u202fitems:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>D8710 (Group enrollment from a file)<\/li><li>D7963 (Improve Group enrollments for 100+ students)<\/li><li>D294 (Create Groups and\/or enroll students in Groups using a CSV Spreadsheet)<\/li><li>D6790 (Enrolling students in groups)<\/li><li>D11671 (Allow instructor to bulk enroll students across ALL group categories at once)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6036482\/uploads\/290NNS2A9LV0\/groups-import-button.png\" alt=\"The Import option appears as a button on the Manage Groups page and also appears in the Category drop-down menu\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure: The new&nbsp;<strong>Import<\/strong>&nbsp;option appears on the&nbsp;<strong>Manage Groups<\/strong>&nbsp;page and in the&nbsp;<strong>Category<\/strong>&nbsp;drop-down menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6036482\/uploads\/GC3UPLU3OSMY\/groups-import-page-shield-8979.png\" alt=\"Import pageshows the CSV upload interface for enrolling users in groups\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure: The new&nbsp;<strong>Import<\/strong>&nbsp;page includes instructions to create a CSV file for enrolling and unenrolling users.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6036482\/uploads\/V9FBXFTQVM19\/groups-import-complete-page-shield-8979.png\" alt=\"The CSV file  import process appears completed with no errors on the Importing page\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure: After uploading a file, the&nbsp;<strong>Import<\/strong>&nbsp;page displays the process and checks for errors in the file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Quizzes \u2013 Full HTML Editor for Question Feedback | New<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This update introduces the full HTML editor for question-level feedback in Quizzes, enhancing the instructor experience and aligning it with the editors already available for&nbsp;<strong>Attempt Feedback<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Overall Feedback<\/strong>, including support for the equation editor and file upload features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, instructors could provide feedback on individual questions using only the inline HTML editor, which offered limited formatting and functionality. With this update, instructors can now:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Upload files securely<\/li><li>Insert equations<\/li><li>Use advanced formatting and media tools<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6036482\/uploads\/HIM6FNWMD3HB\/borg-5035-full-html-editor-en-us.png\" alt=\"Expanded insert menu of the Feedback field in a full HTML editor showing options such as Equation, Table, Insert Stuff, Quicklink, Image, Attributes, Divider, Emoji, Symbols, and Insert Code.\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure: The question\u00a0<strong>Feedback<\/strong>\u00a0editor now includes extended options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Quizzes \u2013 Reopen a submitted quiz attempt | New<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Instructors can now reopen the most recently submitted quiz attempt, allowing learners to resume from where they left off. The new feature supports scenarios where learners run out of time or submit their attempt by mistake, reducing frustration from auto-submissions and improving overall quiz management flexibility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, instructors could not reopen a submitted quiz attempt. Both&nbsp;<strong>Overall Statistics<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Criteria Statistics<\/strong>&nbsp;are included with this update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, rubric statistics were limited or inconsistent for written response questions. With this update, the rubric statistics display data per quiz question for all users, not just the quiz overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The user interface clearly indicates that only first attempts with text are included in the stats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This update provides instructors with consistent rubric statistics across all assessment types for better insight into how learners perform on written response questions in particular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Rubrics \u2013 Options to improve rubric management | New<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To improve efficiency when reviewing assessments, instructors can now clear rubric scoring using the new&nbsp;<strong>Clear Selections<\/strong>&nbsp;option.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This update supports instructors who need to reset scoring and start from scratch. Clearing the rubric score does not remove any previously entered feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/us.v-cdn.net\/6036482\/uploads\/C7ACPWB1TVH3\/rubrics-clear-selections-man-3858-en-us.png\" alt=\"The confirmation dialog states Clear all rubric selections? Feedback you've entered will not be affected.\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Figure: Click&nbsp;<strong>Clear Selections<\/strong>&nbsp;in the confirmation dialog to remove rubric scoring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selecting&nbsp;<strong>Clear Selections<\/strong>&nbsp;requires users to confirm the action. The option to undo this action appears in a pop-up window for a brief amount of time after clicking&nbsp;<strong>Clear Selections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, to modify scoring, instructors had to manually clear each rubric level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the&nbsp;<strong>Clear Selections<\/strong>&nbsp;menu option, the&nbsp;<strong>Set All Ungraded<\/strong>&nbsp;option is also updated.
