{"id":24324,"date":"2023-08-09T10:07:03","date_gmt":"2023-08-09T14:07:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ltsadev.sheridanc.on.ca\/apps\/wordpress\/learning-and-technology-portal\/?p=24324"},"modified":"2024-04-19T13:59:13","modified_gmt":"2024-04-19T13:59:13","slug":"new-custom-widgets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/new-custom-widgets\/","title":{"rendered":"New Custom Widgets"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We have added three new widgets into SLATE for you to add to your custom homepage.<\/p>\n<p>The new widgets include:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Content Navigator<\/strong> is a custom widget for easy and quick navigation to modules, submodules, and content.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/community.brightspace.com\/s\/article\/Custom-Widget-Content-Navigator\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Content Navigator Widget<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>Welcome Window Widget<\/strong> is the perfect tool to welcome users, help orient them to the structure and navigation of the course, and set them up for success.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_xmsonormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/community.d2l.com\/brightspace\/kb\/articles\/6099-using-the-welcome-window-widget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Welcome Window Widget<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"article-summary\" data-aura-rendered-by=\"10:195;a\">The custom<strong> Visual Table of Contents<\/strong> widget creates a card for every module created in the course. The card contains a unique image for each module; and pulls in the description and number of topics for each module. It also has a progress tracker and various ways of getting users back to where they left content.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"x_xmsonormal\"><a href=\"https:\/\/community.brightspace.com\/s\/article\/Custom-Widget-Visual-Table-of-Contents\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Visual Table of Content<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can add these widgets by creating or editing your <a href=\"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/creating-a-custom-homepage\/\">custom homepage<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Edit Custom Homepage<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Click<strong> Course Admin<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Choose<strong> Homepages<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Find your <strong>active homepage and click on it.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>If you are using the default homepage, click the dropdown arrow on the default homepage and choose copy, then, you can click on the copied homepage to edit and make your new custom homepage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Scroll down until you see the widget layout.<\/li>\n<li>Click<strong> Add Widget<\/strong> where you want the widget to be added. You can adjust the widget&#8217;s location once added to the course.<\/li>\n<li>Under Add Widgets, find the widget you want to add, <strong>Content Navigator Widget, Welcome Window Widget, and\/or Visual Table of Contents Widget,<\/strong> and click<strong> Add.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Choose <strong>Save and Close<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Log back into your SLATE homepage, and you will now see the added widgets.\n<ul>\n<li>If you prefer a different location for the widgets, you can start the instructions over and drag and drop the widgets to new locations or click the X to delete them.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We have added three new widgets into SLATE for you to add to your custom homepage.
