{"id":23409,"date":"2023-07-24T15:43:24","date_gmt":"2023-07-24T15:43:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ltsadev.sheridanc.on.ca\/apps\/wordpress\/learning-and-technology-portal\/?p=23409"},"modified":"2025-03-20T15:27:32","modified_gmt":"2025-03-20T15:27:32","slug":"creating-an-analytic-rubric","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/creating-an-analytic-rubric\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating an Analytic Rubric"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Accessing the Rubrics Tool:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Click\u00a0<strong>Assessment\u00a0<\/strong>on the Course Navbar.<\/li>\n<li>From the drop-down menu select\u00a0<strong>Rubrics.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h1>Creating a New Rubric:<\/h1>\n<ul>\n<li>On the rubrics page select <strong>New Rubric<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Under<strong> Status<\/strong>, you are able to choose between the following <strong>Published, Archived or Draft.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Enter a <strong>Name<\/strong> for the rubric in the Name field.<\/li>\n<li>From the <strong>Type <\/strong>drop-down select\u00a0<strong>Analytic.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>From the<strong> Scoring<\/strong> drop-down choose either <strong>No Score, Points, or Custom Points.\u00a0<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>No Score: <\/strong>Text only assesses criteria based text levels such as Exceeds Expectations, Meets Expectations, etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Points:\u00a0<\/strong>Similar to no score only but allows you to assign a point value to each level such as Exceeds Expectations (100), Meets Expectations (75).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Custom Points:<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0Similar to points but allows you to assign different point values for each level based on each individual criteria. \u00a0For example, in the Speaking Criteria, the Exceeds Expectation level is 100 points. \u00a0In the Listening Criteria, the Exceeds Expectations level is 60 points.<\/li>\n<li>Rubric level ranges below the points are visible while creating and evaluating rubrics, except for holistic rubrics and non-sequential custom points. Rubric level ranges are also visible to students.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-26686\" src=\"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2023\/07\/Screen-Shot-2025-03-20-at-11.20.00-AM-275x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"609\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2023\/07\/Screen-Shot-2025-03-20-at-11.20.00-AM-275x300.png 275w, https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2023\/07\/Screen-Shot-2025-03-20-at-11.20.00-AM-940x1024.png 940w, https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2023\/07\/Screen-Shot-2025-03-20-at-11.20.00-AM-768x837.png 768w, https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2023\/07\/Screen-Shot-2025-03-20-at-11.20.00-AM.png 1188w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 558px) 100vw, 558px\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h5>Note: We recommend using Custom Points so that you can change the points for each criterion and level if required. \u00a0If you choose points the values are automatically assigned based on the number of levels and criterion created.<\/h5>\n<hr \/>\n<h4>Options:<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Rubric Visibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can choose between the following three options:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rubric is Visible to students<\/li>\n<li>Rubric is Hidden from students<\/li>\n<li>Rubric is Hidden from students until feedback is published<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Score Visibility<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hide Scores from students<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Add <strong>Description<\/strong> if applicable<\/p>\n<p><strong>Advanced Availablity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To associate a rubric with other tools you must check the appropriate box under &#8216;<strong>Allow New Associations in&#8217;.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To allow association with grade items, assignments, quizzes and discussion topics check the box beside <strong>Competencies.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>To allow association with ePortfolio select\u00a0<strong>ePortfolio.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5 style=\"text-align: left\">Note: Once a rubric is associated with another tool it can no longer be edited or deleted.<\/h5>\n<p>Click\u00a0<strong>Save\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2019\/03\/Rubric-Options.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-20025\" src=\"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2019\/03\/Rubric-Options.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"766\" height=\"578\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2019\/03\/Rubric-Options.png 766w, https:\/\/ltsa.sheridancollege.ca\/digital-learning-support-hub\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/28\/2019\/03\/Rubric-Options-300x226.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 766px) 100vw, 766px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h4>Best Practices<\/h4>\n<ul data-aura-rendered-by=\"12:229;a\">\n<li>Since rubric work is auto-saved, there is no need to continuously\u00a0<i>Save<\/i>\u00a0the rubric. Instead, use the\u00a0<i>Publish<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0<i>Save Draft\u00a0<\/i>options to make feedback visible immediately or later.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul data-aura-rendered-by=\"12:229;a\">\n<li>Leave overall activity feedback in\u00a0<i>Overall Feedback<\/i>\u00a0for the activity, and not in the rubric. It will display to the learner in a nice consistent block, followed by a completed rubric with detailed criteria feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul data-aura-rendered-by=\"12:229;a\">\n<li>Reserve the use of rubric criteria feedback for assessor additional comments (in plain text). Criteria feedback will\u00a0<u>\u00adnot<\/u>\u00a0be copied to\u00a0<i>Overall Feedback<\/i>\u00a0for the activity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul data-aura-rendered-by=\"12:229;a\">\n<li>Be assured that your learners will see your rubric and overall activity feedback in a consistent presentation across\u00a0<i>User Progress, Content, Assignments, Discussions\u00a0<\/i>and<i>\u00a0Grades<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul data-aura-rendered-by=\"12:229;a\">\n<li>Treat rubric\u00a0<i>Total\u00a0<\/i>as the numeric score that is transferred and communicated in\u00a0<i>Grades<\/i>. Use\u00a0<i>Level Achieved<\/i>\u00a0as additional information of overall achievement. Note that it will be possible to exclude the\u00a0<i>Level Achieved<\/i>\u00a0section in the future.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul data-aura-rendered-by=\"12:229;a\">\n<li>Be assured that the\u00a0<i>Scoring Rubric<\/i>\u00a0automatically contributes to the activity\u00a0<i>Score.<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul data-aura-rendered-by=\"12:229;a\">\n<li>In the case of multiple rubrics, choose whether you want to assess an individual rubric or all rubrics in the same dialog in\u00a0<i>Assignments<\/i><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul data-aura-rendered-by=\"12:229;a\">\n<li>Choose the rubric visibility setting to control whether the rubric is intended for communication of feedback to the learner or for other assessment purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Accessing the Rubrics Tool: Click\u00a0Assessment\u00a0on the Course Navbar.
