For example, you can have a category for Assignment 1, Assignment 2, Seminars, Remedial Help, and Book Reviews.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"mc-main-content\" role=\"main\">\n<p class=\"bodytext\"><b>Important:<\/b>\u00a0Groups have a maximum enrollment of 200 users. If there are more than 200 users in a course, you can create new group categories; there is no limit on the number of group categories in a course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bodytext\">Before you create a new set of groups, you must set up a category and create restricted work areas for the groups.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"step\">\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"1\"><strong>Management&gt;Groups<\/strong>, click <strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">New Category<\/span>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"2\">Enter a\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\"><strong>Category Name.<\/strong> The<\/span>\u00a0d<span class=\"uicontrol\">escription is optional<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"3\">Select an\u00a0<strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">Enrollment Type<\/span><\/strong> from the drop-down list. List of <a href=\"https:\/\/documentation.brightspace.com\/EN\/le\/groups\/instructor\/group_enrollment_types.htm\">Enrollment Types<\/a>\n<ul class=\"step\">\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"4\">Depending on the chosen Enrollment Type, enter the\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Number of Groups<\/span>\u00a0to create, the\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Number of Users<\/span>\u00a0per group, or both.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"5\">To apply a distinctive prefix to each group name and code in the category, enter it in the\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Group Prefix\u00a0<\/span>field. If you do not fill this field, the prefix defaults to &#8220;Group&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"6\">Depending on the chosen\u00a0<b>Enrollment Type<\/b>, to automatically enrol users in groups, select <span class=\"uicontrol\">Auto-enroll new users<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"7\">Depending on the chosen\u00a0<b>Enrollment Type<\/b>, to randomly place users in groups, select\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Randomize users in groups<\/span>. If you do not choose this option, users are placed alphabetically based on the Classlist.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"8\">Depending on the chosen\u00a0<b>Enrollment Type<\/b>, to make the description of the groups visible to learners from within their groups, select\u00a0<b>Make category and group descriptions visible to group members<\/b>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"9\">If you select an\u00a0<b>Enrollment Type<\/b> that supports self-enrollment, to set enrollment availability times, select the\u00a0<b>Set Self Enrollment Start Date<\/b>\u00a0and\/or\u00a0<b>Set Self Enrollment Expiry Date<\/b>\u00a0check boxes and select dates from the mini calendar field.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"10\">If you select\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Set Self Enrollment Expiry Date<\/span>, but you want all learners who do not enrol before the expiry date to be enrolled, you can select <span class=\"uicontrol\">Allocate unenrolled users after Self Enrollment Expiry Date<\/span>\u00a0to automatically, randomly and evenly distribute them into the available groups. This option adds group members beyond the capacity of groups, if applicable. The automatic enrollment recurs at a set interval after the expiry date to ensure that all learners are assigned to a group.<br \/>\n<span class=\"notelabel\">Note:<\/span>\u00a0Enable the options in the\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Create Workspace<\/span>\u00a0area only after you&#8217;ve customized your group names. The Discussions areas are then created with the customized group names right away, and you do not have to edit their names manually later.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"11\">Click\u00a0<strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">Save<\/span>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"12\">To customize individual group names, click the group and enter a new group name.\n<ul class=\"step\">\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"13\">Click\u00a0<strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">Save<\/span>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"14\">To set up discussion areas and assignments with the customized group name, from the category name&#8217;s context menu, click <strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">Edit Category<\/span>.<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"step\">\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"15\">In the\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Create Workspace<\/span>\u00a0area, select\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Set up discussion areas<\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Set up assignments<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"16\">Click\u00a0<strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">Save<\/span>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"17\">On the\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Create Restricted Topics<\/span> page, select the forum where you want to create restricted topics.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"18\">If you have the new group topic creation feature enabled, do one of the following:\n<ol class=\"step2\">\n<li class=\"step2\" value=\"1\">If you want instructors to manage each topic individually, select the\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Create one topic per group<\/span>\u00a0radio button. Learners can only see topics assigned to their group.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step2\" value=\"2\">If you want to enable instructors to manage all activity and assessment from one topic, select the\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Create one topic with threads separated by group<\/span>\u00a0radio button. Learners can only see threads from their own group.<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"3\">Click\u00a0<strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">Create and Next<\/span>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"20\">Enter a group discussion\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Title<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<span class=\"uicontrol\">Description<\/span>.\n<ul class=\"step\">\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"21\">Click\u00a0<strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">Create and Next<\/span>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li class=\"step\" value=\"22\">Click\u00a0<strong><span class=\"uicontrol\">Done<\/span>.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: Assignments can be created on the New Category page by selecting the\u00a0<b>Set up assignments<\/b>\u00a0check box, and choosing a submission type.
